Chemistry
Tina notices the across-the-room flirtation between Wally and Samantha
and wonders why Samantha and Wally have hit it off,
even though they haven't even met. At first Samantha gropes for an explanation,
but is forced to explain that it's just plain CHEMISTRY. In the song,
every time Samantha explains what she is feeling, Tina has a sarcastic comeback.
The chorus, which has joined in the discussion, tries to explain things
in a more rational manner.
(At the beginning of the song you may want to use special effects such as flashing lights, fizzing drinks, bubbling sounds, etc. The two couples, Jessica and Sidney, and Vinny and Jane are getting very affectionate. Other couples, if cast, may do the same.)
(Partial lyrics)
SAMANTHA
I FEEL LIKE I'VE BEEN THRUST IN
SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION
THAT’S CHEMISTRY.
TINA
(Looks very dubious)
WHEN PHYSICAL ATTRACTION
RESULTS IN SUCH REACTION (Sarcastically)
THAT’S CHEMISTRY!
CHORUS
STOP!
LET’S TRY TO ANALYZE IT,
WE - MUST HAVE THE MEANS.
WHAT
COULD BE SO TANTALIZING?
THE ANSWER’S IN THEIR GENES.
SAMANTHA
(Stands up)
WHEN MOLECULES ARE BUBBLING
AND TEMPERATURES ARE DOUBLING,
THAT’S CHEMISTRY.
TINA
(Stands up)
WHEN JUST A CUE FROM CUPID,
CAN MAKE YOU ACT SO STUPID
THAT’S CHEMISTRY!
CHORUS
STOP!
LET’S TRY TO ANALYZE IT,
WE - MUST HAVE THE MEANS.
WHAT
COULD BE SO TANTALIZING?
THE ANSWER’S IN THEIR GENES.
SAMANTHA
(Now
with Wally and smiling)
I WASN'T FEELING FLIRTY
UNTIL ELEVEN THIRTY
THAT'S CHEMISTRY.
TINA
AND THEN YOU STARTED GLOWING
ADRENALIN WAS FLOWING
THAT'S CHEMISTRY
