Don't You Know By Now?
Vinny and Jane, regular customers at the Oasis, each look at their relationship differently. Vinny tells Jane that he is thankful that she is such "a good friend". Of course Jane thinks of Vinny as much more than a friend. As Wally and Vinny get into a quiet conversation, Jane stands and softly sings her ballad of love: DON'T YOU KNOW BY NOW?
(Partial lyrics)
JANE (Plaintively)
DON’T YOU KNOW BY NOW?
CAN’T YOU READ MY MIND?
HOW CAN YOU BE SO BRIGHT AND YET SO BLIND?
(Stands up and goes over to Vinny. His back is to her as he continues his conversation with Wally and Sidney)
DON’T YOU GET IT
YET?
LOOK INTO MY EYES
WHY CAN'T YOU SEE ITS YOU
I IDOLIZE?
I’VE BEEN JITTERY FROM THE START
YOU’VE BEEN FIDGETING WITH MY HEART
IT’S SO OBVIOUS - IT’S NO USE
IGNORANCE IS A DUMB EXCUSE
- IT WON’T KEEP US APART.
DON’T YOU KNOW THE SCORE?
ISN’T THERE SOME SIGN?
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE BEFORE YOU KNOW YOU’RE MINE?
DON’T YOU HEAR THE WORDS?
ARE YOU JUST A TEASE?
WHY CAN’T YOU HEAR ME
SAYING "LOVE ME PLEASE?"
I’VE BEEN JITTERY FROM THE START
YOU’VE BEEN FIDGETING WITH MY HEART
IT’S SO OBVIOUS - IT’S NO USE
IGNORANCE IS A DUMB EXCUSE
-IT WON’T KEEP US APART.
