SMALL TALK -Reviews by other groups or individuals
February 16, 2009
Dear Ann and Joe Bonacci, on behalf of the Mighty Corson Art Players,
thank you so much for allowing us the honor of being the first community theater
in the Midwest to produce your musical, SMALL TALK.
As a small theater group we are often looking for fresh,
new productions to bring to our audience.
We ambitiously scheduled a third weekend of shows, not
knowing how an unknown musical would be received.
With SMALL TALK, we hit a home run!
We set a record for total tickets sold and average
tickets per show.
Word-of-mouth advertising is very important for our 105 seat theater
and, often, our success is dependant on that.
Our opening weekend audiences are both our best friend
and our worst critic. They will let their friends know if a show is worth
seeing.
Obviously, our audiences loved this show!
There were a large number of them that saw the show more
than once.
And they are not shy about letting us know how they feel.
Our theater has a receiving line in the lobby after each
performance where the audience can meet the actors.
Some of the comments that they received were; "This was
such a fun show", "I loved the songs", “This is my second time here and I
enjoyed it even more than the first time", and "Loved how the show ends!”.
I had the good fortune to be cast as
Congratulations on SMALL TALK!
We wish you the best of luck in all your future
endeavors and are confident that you will have many more successes.
Fondly yours,

Today Show – The Wednesday Edition
The
new musical comedy SMALL TALK written by Joe Bonacci is a thoroughly delightful
show. The dialog is both timely and clever. The music will have you tapping your
foot, laughing one minute (Cookbook
of Love) and reflective (Find Me) the next minute. The story takes place at the
Oasis Cafe where its affable owner Charlie has decided to throw a special party
this evening to create some new business. He and his loyal, but sassy waitress
Becky provide the patrons with a special "cocktail" called the Double Entendre
which they believe will add to the "ambiance" of the cafe. As the night
progresses the Oasis becomes home to a bunch of colorful patrons who are all
interesting and appear to carry their own “baggage” in creative ways. Characters
are shy, sensitive, sweet, street smart, knowledgeable and one macho character
in particular will remind you of a kid you went to high school with (only
older). This musical will appeal to family audiences. “Kid in a Candy Store” is
clever and fun and is sure to get your head turning if you like sweets. The
ensemble numbers "Small
Talk" and "Chemistry" are upbeat. Others, particularly "Find Me", "Imagine Me In
Paris" and "The Road" are more tender and wonderful to listen to. Each of the
characters in the show has his/her own particular song and dialogue. Watching
the interaction of such disparate characters provides for a lot of
giggles, guffaws and groans. All-in-all SMALL TALK is thoroughly enjoyable and
fun to (small) talk about - a great way to enjoy a matinee or evening!

Hi Ann:
All went exceedingly well. It was well received by the audience and the kids and their family and friends all enjoyed it thoroughly. Sorry your son didn't make it. I will try to forward you some photographs. The DD didn't turn out too well- which was a great pity. Good luck with the performances in the states.
